Yeongju holds two UNESCO World Heritage sites: Buseoksa, a mountainside temple founded in 676 whose Muryangsujeon hall is one of Korea's oldest wooden buildings, and Sosu Seowon, the country's first Confucian academy. Both sit below Sobaeksan National Park, which adds ridge hikes in every season.
