Korea luxury hotels guide (2026): an honest take on where to splurge

Most of the internationally branded five-star hotels sit in central Seoul — around Myeongdong, Jung-gu and the riverside Gangnam/Jamsil side — plus a smaller cluster in Busan (Haeundae beachfront) and resort-style stays on Jeju. The catch is that 'luxury' is concentrated: outside Seoul, Busan and Jeju your top-tier options thin out fast, so if your itinerary runs through smaller cities you may be choosing between a good four-star business hotel and a long taxi back to a five-star base.

At the top tier you typically get a central location, a proper concierge, a spa or pool, club-lounge breakfast and the kind of service Korea is genuinely known for. The honest catch is that some famous five-star names trade partly on the brand and the address — rooms can be smaller than the equivalent price buys in the US or Europe, and a few luxury extras (lounge access, late checkout) are add-ons rather than included. It depends on what you're buying. Korea's mid-range and even budget hotels are clean, safe and well-located, so you're rarely paying a premium just to be comfortable.
