Seoul Neighborhood Guide
Mapo + Hapjeong (마포 + 합정)
Mapo-gu, Seoul
Hipster headquarters with riverside park access — Hongdae's chiller, more food-focused cousin.
Mapo and the adjacent Hapjeong district sit between Hongdae and the Han River. Mapo Galbi (the original Mapo-style grilled ribs) is the area's namesake. Hapjeong has converted publishing warehouses (now cafes), the Mapo Bridge sunset spot, and a stretch of riverside park. Quieter than Hongdae but still fashionable + foodie-friendly.
