Nanji Hangang Park

Are you familiar with the story behind the creation of Haneul Park known for its beautiful silver grass and pink muhly? Located near World Cup Stadium Station in Mapo-gu, Seoul, Haneul Park gets its name from being the park closest to the sky. A former landfill site in Nanjido Island was transformed into a vibrant ecological park that is today’s Haneul Park. In the past, piles of waste accumulated for 15 years filled Nanjido. Mountains of waste emitted foul smell and air pollutants that even after the landfill operation was ceased, the place was considered inhabitable. Over time, however, signs of ecological recovery were observed, and Haneul Park was created with the sole purpose of revitalizing the local environment. The entire park runs on natural energy and has few artificially made facilities. Along with its neighboring Noeul Park and Pyeonghwa Park, Haneul Park offers a place for relaxation to its visitors, especially with its beautiful scenery. The park is well-known for its Silver Grass Festival in autumn season. Visitors can take a walk around the park and enjoy the beauty of silver grass swaying harmoniously under the setting sun.
