Deokjin Park with the lake formed during the Goryeo Dynasty is a place that embraces the grace of Jeonju and holds the memories and daily lives of Jeonju citizens. It also hosts the Dano festival on May 5 of the lunar calendar. The lake is covered with lotus in the early Summer and it offers a variety of attractions including a pavilion, bridge, artificial waterfall, Iris Garden, Wild Flower Hill, amusement park, waterside stage, and music waterfall. The landmarks of Deokjin Park are the Yeonhwagyo Bridge and Yeonhwajeong Pavilion. The Yeonhwagyo Bridge crossing the lake was originally a suspension bridge but was reborn as a stone bridge, blending curves and straight lines beautifully. The railing is decorated like a fence to add the beauty of Korea. As you walk along the Yeonhwagyo Bridge, you can see the Yeonhwajeong Pavilion, a Hanok library newly built on the artificial island in the middle. Seating down and reading a book in an elegant and refined library will make you feel like a person of taste. Deokjin Park is beautiful all year round but in the early Summer, large green lotus leaves and colorful lotus petals that cover half of the lake create spectacular scenery. You also can’t miss the nightscape. When the darkness falls, Yeonhwagyo Bridge is filled with warm and romantic lights. Yellow lights over the bridge give the impression as if you are walking on water under the moonlight. You can enjoy the fascinating night view of Yeonhwagyo Bridge and Yeonhwajoeng Pavilion over gentle water every night and all year round.
