Wonpyeong Dock is one of the eight scenic spots in Pyeongtaek. You might be wondering why the riverside has been selected as one of the eight scenic sites. It is because of the stunning sight that can be witnessed when the sun sets over the reeds and silver grass along the riverside of Wonpyeong Dock. Have you ever heard this song? “From the field where the wind lingered, the evening smoke rises. On the autumn hills that have changed into colorful clothing burns the red sunset glow.” The words to the long-loved children’s song, “Sunset,” which won the top prize at the Creative Children’s Song Festival in 1984, were written while watching the sunset from Wonpyeong Dock. It is said that before the Pyeongtaekho breakwater was built, it was a maritime transportation hub with seawater reaching all the way here, and Hwangpo sailboats transported seafood such as shrimp to Hwachon, Sindae-ri, and Sapgyo via this area. Gunmungyo, which can be found at Wonpyeong Dock, was formerly Gunmunpo, one of the top 10 ports in Joseon, and there was also Sindeokpogu. Over the years, as the breakwater changed the course of the water and boat traffic declined, the area no longer received sea water or merchants and visitors. On the 50ha wetlands of the Gunmungyo Bridge area of the Anseongcheon Stream, you can see endless stretches of the silver grass and reeds, and in autumn, you can enjoy a spectacular view of cosmos flowers. Not only that, but you can also see wildflowers as well as insects Every October, against this backdrop of outstanding natural scenery, the Wonpyeongnaru Mung Bean Festival, which has been held annually since 2012, is held. How about visiting Wonpyeong Dock, which is a great spot for cycling or walking while watching the beautiful sunset and not far from Pyeongtaek Station, for a pleasant retreat away from the city?
