Cheonjangho Lake

Cheonjangho Lake, located in Cheongyang-gun of Chungcheongnam-do, is an irrigation reservoir filled with clean water for agricultural use. Completed over about seven years starting in 1972, Cheonjangho Lake is recognized as one of Cheongyang's top 10 scenic attractions, thanks to its clear waters and picturesque surrounding landscapes. Cheonjangho Lake lies at the eastern foothills of Chilgapsan Mountain, and the view of the mountain shrouded in the hazy mist rising from the lake is said to be truly spectacular. Its location along the national highway between Daejeon and Cheongyang also makes it easily accessible. There’s an interesting legend associated with Cheonjangho Lake. According to the tale, a child living in the area needed to visit a doctor but couldn’t cross the swollen stream. A yellow dragon residing in the lake sacrificed its chance to ascend to the heavens, transforming its body into a bridge to help the child cross. A tiger, moved by this act, became a divine guardian of the village and its people. The highlight of Cheonjangho Lake is the Cheonjangho Lake Suspension Bridge, a well-known attraction frequently featured in broadcasts. Spanning a remarkable 207 meters, it was the longest suspension bridge in Korea when it opened in 2017. The swaying motion of the bridge offers a thrilling experience, as if riding the legendary yellow dragon. There are countless ways to enjoy Cheonjangho Lake. In early spring, many visitors come to fish for smelt, and an ecological experience center is also nearby, making it an excellent destination for family outings.
