Curated by KORLENS무안향교는 1394년 무안읍성의 남쪽에 있는 공수산(현재의 남산)에 세웠으나, 호랑이가 자주 나타나서 성종 1년(1470)에 현재의 자리로 옮겼다.
임진왜란(1592) 때 파손된 것을 숙종 15년(1689)에 고쳤으며, 그 뒤 정조 13년(1789), 순조 20년(1820), 고종 29년(1892), 광무 6년(1902) 등 여러 차례 고쳐지었다.
무안향교에 현재 남아있는 건물들은 조선 후기 이후에 점차적으로 지어진 것이며, 대성전, 명륜당, 동재, 서재, 내삼문 등이 있다.
대성전에는 5성과 중국 4현, 그리고 우리나라 18현의 위패가 봉인되어 있고, 봄과 가을에 석전제를 지내고 있다.

Muanhyanggyo Local Confucian School was a Confucian school in Muan, first built in 1394 at Namsan Mountain (then Mt. Gongsusan). Since wild tigers often appeared during the New Year’s ritual events; however, it was moved to its current location in the first year of the reign of King Seongjong (1470), 77 years after its establishment. Today, buildings including Daeseongjeon, Jegichanggo, Myeongryundang Sinmun Gate, Dongje, Seoje, Dongbyeoldang, and Oesammun Gate still remain in here, but Hongjeonmun Gate, Samaje Hall, and Muhakdang Hall are now gone. All the remaining buildings have been practically reconstructed since the late Joseon Dynasty. Only the 600-year-old ginkgo tree in front of Myeongnyundang Lecture Hall holds the whole history of the school.
