Yeongnyeongjeon Hall, also known as the Hall of Everlasting Peace, serves as an auxiliary shrine to the Main Shrine Hall. A chart displayed on the information panel presents the list of kings and their queen consorts whose spirit tablets are enshrined in this hall. King Sejong, the fourth ruler of Joseon, made the decision to construct an auxiliary shrine hall, which is today's Yeongnyeongjeon Hall. Upon the death of a king and the arrival of his tablet at the Main Shrine Hall, the tablets of the oldest ancestors within the shrine were relocated from the Main Shrine Hall to the auxiliary shrine hall. As per tradition, only five ancestors?the Joseon dynasty founder and the four latest generations of the current king's ancestors?were to be honored at the Main Shrine Hall of the Joseon state shrine. Presently, the auxiliary shrine hall houses 34 spirit tablets of Joseon kings and their consorts, inclusive of the dynasty founder's four latest generations of ancestors who were posthumously given kingly titles, as well as seven rulers. The Joseon Dynasty had a total of 27 kings, with two kings not permitted to be honored by enshrinement in the royal ancestral shrine. These two were deposed from the throne due to their ruthless tyranny and immoral behaviors. Conversely, there was a king who was dethroned but later reinstated with the kingly title posthumously, leading to the relocation of his spirit tablet to the royal ancestral shrine.
