Songdo Beach Songdo Beach of Busan has everything you want from things to see, things to eat and things to play with. It especially attracts many visitors since the beach offers views of Busan from the land, sea, and sky. The Marine Cable Car offers the sky view of Busan at Songdo Beach. It goes back and forth between the building in front of Songnim Park and Amnam Park, travels over the sea and presents a view of Geobukseom Island, Namhangdaegyo Bridge, Haeparang-gil and Sinseondae Cliff. From large fishing boats to motor boats for leisure sports, you can see a variety of ships that depart from the Port of Busan and float along the sea in front of Songdo. The view from the sea can be enjoyed from the Skywalk on Geobukseom Island. Geobukseom Island is named for its resemblance to a turtle but it is also called Songdo because of the pine trees that populate the island. It is connected to the mainland through the cloud trail. If you walk along the trail and enter Geobukseom Island, you reach the entrance to the Skywalk. Here, you may look around with your shoes on, and if you look up at the sky from the Skywalk, you will see the cable car pass right above you. The most popular attraction on land is, of course, the sandy beach. Looking at Geobukseom Island, the Cable Cars and the blue sea of Busan from the beach, you are due for a great and exciting time of fun. At night, it is possible to enjoy the beautiful sea in harmony with the bright lights emitted by the Cable Cars and large ships.

Songdo Beach Korea's first public beach Teacher: Welcome to the Songdo Beach Trip! Student: Wow, it’s the ocean! Why is this place called Songdo? Teacher: This place was named Songdo because it has had many pine forests since old times, and it was the first public beach in Korea that opened in 1913. It was the No. 1 tourist spot in Busan and was called the Naples of the East. It was a great beach that was selected as the best tourist destination in the country from the 1960s to the 1970s because of its clean white sandy beach and clear water. Student: I heard this from my grandma. She said she came to Songdo Beach for her honeymoon, hehe. Teacher: At that time, there were many things to enjoy, including the cable car, and the surrounding scenery of nature was also very good, so many tourists came to visit. It is a place that holds the memories and romance of lovers and newlyweds of that time. Student: There are not that many people here now compared to Haeundae or Gwangalli Beach. Teacher: As development accelerated in the 1980s, a lot of sand was lost, and the cable car and surrounding facilities were damaged by Tropical Storm Selma in 1987 and Typhoon Maemi in 2003, so the number of visitors to the beach significantly decreased. However, with the restoration of old Songdo landmarks such as the Busan Air Cruise, marine diving platform, and Yonggung Suspension Bridge, tourists are coming back again. Now, shall we go together to see the famous Busan superstar Songdo Beach?

You can take in the beautiful scenery of Songdo Beach, Busan Yeongdo and Namhang Bridge, Songdo Coast Walk, and the waves crashing against unique rocks and cliffs. Student: The floor of the cable car over there looks clear It looks a little scary. Teacher: It’s the crystal cabin with a transparent floor. It is a little more expensive than a regular cabin with a closed floor, but you can experience the fantastic feeling of standing on the mysterious boundary between the sea and the sky. All cabins of Busan Air Cruise are made of glass, so you can enjoy a panoramic view of the open blue sea. Student: I think it will relieve stress and make me feel like I’m flying over the sea. I’m excited to see how magnificent the view from the cable car will be. Teacher: You can have a superb view of the sky and the sea that change every hour. It is also a good place to take in the unique night view of Songdo while watching the tranquil sunset and the night sea colored with glamorous lights. Let's check out what Songdo Beach looks like from the sky in the cable car….

Transcript

Songdo Cloud Trail in Seo-gu, Busan is a 365-meter long seatrail. It’s installed at a height of 5.5 to 9 meters above the sea near Geobukseom Island on the east side of Songdo Beach. Unlike most of the other sea trails, it is impressively curved. It’s because the bridge was designed in the flowing shape of a dragon navigating through the sea. It’s based on a Geobukseom Island’s legend of a young fisherman and the dragon king’s daughter. Once upon a time, a young fisherman lived in Songdo with his single mother. One day, he fell in love with Princess Inryoung, the daughter of the dragon king. Inryoung, who was also a dragon, wanted to marry the fisherman. She decided to pray for a thousand days in the dragon cave to become a human. However, on the last day of her prayer, Inryoung was attacked by a sea monster. The fisherman bravely fought with the monster. After a deadly fight, he did save the princess and defeated the sea monster, but he lost his own life and became a spirit of the sea. Princess Inryoung didn’t become a human, either. Instead, she turned into a half-human half-dragon. The dragon king, who took pity on this, turned the fisherman into Geobuksom Island, so he could be with Princess Inryoung forever. It’s said that the island gives longevity and wealth to those who visit. If a man and a woman who are in love with each other visit, the island blesses their love. Visiting the trail is a fulfilling experience in multiple ways. Part of the floor of the skywalk is made of tempered glass. It’s a thrilling experience to see the waves through the glass. You may even feel like you are walking on the ocean. The trail is open from 6 am to 11 pm every day. In the daytime, if you look up to the sky, you can see the colorful Busan Air Cruise cable cars. You can also enjoy the beautiful view of Songdo Beach as you walk along the trail. At night, the suspension bridge reflected in the night sea and the lights around Songdo Beach create a romantic scene.

Songdo Marine Diving Platform A unique summer leisure sport to enjoy the dynamism of the sea Student: Teacher! What’s that over the ocean? Teacher: It’s the Songdo Marine Diving Platform that was lost in a typhoon, but was restored in 2013. Student: The shape looks quite unique. It looks a bit like a turtle. Teacher: With the motif of Geobukseom Island near Songdo Beach, it’s shaped like a mother turtle and her baby. The high diving board area in the front is the mother turtle, where you can dive from a height of 5 m. And the baby turtle diving board in the back is 3 m high. Student: I think many people would use it. Can people dive at any time? Teacher: It’s popular because it’s a unique summer leisure sport that can only be used when Songdo Beach is open. In fact, many tourists who want to feel the dynamic movement of the sea and test their hidden courage come visit. When you dive, you must follow the guide and instructions of the safety personnel to prevent accidents.
