Daejeon

The Daeheung-dong area is the original downtown of Daejeon. There are buildings and cafes that evoke a sophisticated urban image, while landscapes reminiscent of the 1970s and 80s coexist. What stylishly decorates Daeheung-dong are the old and rustic-looking buildings and the vintage paintings drawn on the walls. In addition, there are old alleys, art supply stores, small theaters, and galleries.

The Tower of Great Light(Hanbit Tower) is an observatory located in the Expo Science Park in Daejeon. The tower is a symbolic sculpture built to commemorate the Daejeon Expo held in 1993, and is called the Hanbit Tower because it is a ray of light that connects the present and the future. The 93-meter-high Hanbit Tower offers a bird's-eye view of the Expo Science Park and major areas of Daejeon. On the first floor, the Exhibition Room displays photos and audio-visual videos of major tourist attractions symbolizing Daejeon. 

Daejeon Expo Aquarium combines living marine life with media art. It is themed around the sea in Greek mythology, incorporating the story of Poseidon, the god of the sea, into its exhibits. Visitors can enjoy performances such as underwater ballet, feeding shows, and magic, along with activities like sea exploration boat rides, seawalker experiences, scuba diving, fish feeding, and 5D experiences. 

Seodaejeon Park is located at the site of a previous military base that closed in 1975. The site served as the venue for the 1993 Daejeon Expo, and was turned into the current park visitors see now at that time. The park features a large grassy field, outdoor performance stage, and more. The park serves as the venue for various festivals throughtout the year, including a Children's Day event and Kalguksu festival.

Yurim Park is situated along the Gapcheon Riverside in Yuseong, Daejeon. The park is graced with blooming cherry blossoms in spring, and it hosts a lively chrysanthemum festival in autumn. The park features a small pond resembling the Korean peninsula, adorned with a traditional Korean water mill, lotuses, and a pavilion. The diverse amenities of the park, such as a lawn with an outdoor stage and a small library, make the visit more enjoyable.

Daejeon Travel Lounge is a cultural complex that provides tourist information and relaxation for those visiting Daejeon. Daejeon Travel Lounge offers a variety of experiences such as old school uniforms, Enlightenment Era clothing, DIY and culture concerts, and also features an unmanned cafe, souvenir shop, Wi-Fi, tourist information search kiosk, and many other convenience facilities.

Red Leaf Willow Habitat is located near Daechung Dam and Geumgang Lohas Daecheong Park, along the Geumgang River. This area is ideal for photography, offering stunning views during sunrise and sunset, with sunlight and mist creating a picturesque scene. The decaying wood of the trees in the wetland area can even emit light on its own during the nighttime.

Railway Residency Village, located near Daejeon Station, retains much of its old charm, offering visitors the feeling of stepping back in time. Daejeon&rsquo;s modern history is closely tied to the development of its railroads. With the opening of the Gyeongbu Line in 1905 and the Honam Line in 1911, the city emerged as a major transportation hub. As traditional villages began to disappear, people flocked to Daejeon, transforming it into a growing metropolis. During the Japanese occupation in the 1930s, the area housed many Japanese railway engineers, which is why Japanese-style architecture can still be found today. At the time, there were over 100 government buildings, though only about 40 have survived. Several of these have been recognized as Registered Cultural Properties for their historical significance. Among them, Building No. 42 now serves as a cultural space that occasionally hosts exhibitions. A stroll along the quiet Solangseoul-gil offers visitors a chance to admire charming murals adorning the walls, adding to the nostalgic atmosphere of the village.<br>

Jung-gu is the heart of Daejeon Metropolitan City and is home to Bomunsan Mountain and Banghwasan Mountain. Bomunsan Mountain is located in the southern part of the city and was once called "Bomulsan" meaning "treasure mountain" because it was believed that treasure was buried in the mountain. Bomunsan Mountain was designated as a park in 1965. There are many mineral springs and the azaleas and cherry blossoms that bloom in spring. In autumn, the leaves change to a beautiful color in the maple forest. This park has the Bomunsanseong Fortress and Bomunsa Temple Site, an outdoor music hall, an observatory, amusement facilities, a cable car, and about 10 hiking trails, making it a great place to exercise. There are also recreational facilities such as mountain climbing as well as leisure facilities including an indoor roller skating rink in Sajeong Park, soccer field, outdoor music hall, Greenland, and Youth Square. <br><Br> The Bomunsan Forest Trail is a 13-kilometer walking trail that circles Bomunsan Mountain. The dense forest along the trail creats a cool shade to walk under and boasts beautiful fall foliage in autumn.

Sangso-dong Forest Park is located at the point where the foothills of Maninsan Mountain and Sikjangsan Mountain meet. The road to the park is beautifully lined with sycamore trees. The park offers various facilities for enjoying nature and in particular, the stone pagodas placed throughout the park are a must-see. Visitors can stack their own rocks and make wishes relating to family, health, relationships, and more. The park is great for walks, hikes, or even just to relax as wild flowers bloom all throughout spring to fall.

Solomon Law Park is a theme park operated by the Ministry of Justice, offering an experiential legal education. Visitors can learn about and experience the law in an easy and entertaining way. The Law Experience Center provides opportunities to experience legislation, investigation, courtrooms, and prisons. The park includes a Law Playground, as well as amenities like a leisure area and a convenience store.

Uam Historical Park, situated in the eastern part of Daejeon, is both a cultural heritage site and a park. It was once the place where Uam Song Siyeol (1607-1689), a scholar and government official during the Joseon dynasty, conducted his research and educational activities. The traditional houses established during his time and the relics left by Song Siyeol are still preserved, and visitors can view these artifacts at the historic museum. The park also features a pond within its premises.

Daejeon Expo Park was established following the closing of the Daejeon Expo in 1993. The park comprises various facilities like the Hanbit Tower, the representative tower of Daejeon World Expo, and a water plaza with a musical fountain. At night, a fabulous media facade and special lighting effects create an awesome scene against the backdrop of Hanbit Tower.

Jangdong Forest Park, a designated forest bathing area, is situated on Gyejoksan Mountain in Daejeon. This tranquil site is equipped with sports facilities, a swimming pool, and a lawn area. A unique attraction starting from the park is the Gyejoksan Red Clay Trail, where visitors can walk barefoot and enjoy the natural health benefits. Additionally, the park serves as a starting point for various hiking trails leading to the historical Gyejoksanseong Fortress, providing a range of trekking experiences for outdoor enthusiasts.

Jangtaesan Recreational Forest consists of a dense forest of ginkgo trees and bald cypress. Lush valleys nearby make for a great getaway during summer vacation. Yongtaeul Reservoir, located at the entrance, gives beautiful views as well. Inside the natural recreation forest, various facilities including walking paths, physical activity facilities, a botanical garden and bare-foot walking paths are available for visitors.

Yuseongoncheon Hot Springs is located in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon. It is a venerable hot spring area known since the 7th century. The hot spring water temperature ranges from 27 to 56 degrees Celsius, and it contains various beneficial minerals with an alkaline pH ranging from 7.5 to 8.5, flowing from a depth of 200 meters underground. The streets are lined with retusa fringe trees, and in May, the Retusa Fringe Flower Festival takes place.
